Hi Sandy. Are you sure it was a potato pancake? I know of a Syrniki… which is a Ukrainian pancake made with cheese, typically a farmers cheese or quark. Hope this helps. I’m sure you could google the recipe.

My grandmother was from Czechoslovakia. She used to make a potato pancake and the word something like sisnaki, not right spelling I know but sounded like that. Have been trying to find the right word for many years and was wondering if someone could help. I’ve seen many German words and Australian but none like this sounding word. Any help! Thanks.

Ah, potato pancakes with applesauce: truly a family favorite and a traditional dish in any Eastern European Jewish home. isn’t it funny how certain dishes find their way into so many cultures and become staples of so many cuisines. Yours are perfect!
