I made 2 loaves of bread and it was so good! Fresh and warm right out of the oven, we all slathered the butter on. I didn’t even care about eating dinner. Honestly, I would have been completely satisfied just eating a few slices of bread… but I stopped myself. Somehow.

Here’s the recipe. I hope you’ll give it a try.

INGREDIENTS
1 package Active Dry Yeast (or 2 1/2 teaspoons)
1 /2 cups warm Water (110 degrees)
1 cup Sourdough Starter (at room temperature)
3 cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose Flour
2 tsp Sugar
2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Baking Soda

METHOD
In the bowl of your electric mixer, using the hook attachment, add the yeast and warm water. Allow to soften for a few minutes.
Meanwhile, combine your flours, sugar, salt and baking soda in a separate large bowl.
Add the Sourdough Starter and the dry ingredients into the bowl with the yeast and water. Mix until a smooth elastic ball of dough is formed (about 3 minutes).
Lightly flour a work surface and turn the dough out. Knead and shape into a ball.
Place in a greased bowl, turning once to coat the entire dough.
Cover with a clean dish cloth and let rise until double, about an hour.
Punch down and divide in half.
Shape dough and place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Make slashes across the top of the loaves with a sharp knife.
Let rise in a warm place for another hour.
Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes.
Remove from baking sheet and cool on a rack.
Enjoy!
